Embedded Software Engineer (Space!)
Location: Pasadena, CA
Referral Fee: $3,000 (contact for details)
A small, top-notch aerospace firm is looking for a lead embedded software engineer. This is a customer facing position at a firm where avionics software is a critical part of what they do. Management is former JPL and other top aero companies, and while they’ve been around for nearly two decades, they keep themselves a nimble, vanguard firm. At least every couple of months, one of their products makes it into orbit (or farther!).
I’m working directly with the CEO, and I’m also a former JPL software engineer, so you can expect a better than normal hiring experience.
A key requirement is that you have experience on space projects. There is a lot of lingo you need to be comfortable with in front of customers, so if you haven’t worked on space projects then there will be too much to learn. It would be best if you had full lifecycle experience, from requirements through operations.
Ideally, you have leadership experience (or at least a leader’s attitude). Someone who is focused on creating value for the company, not just writing code. Someone who can make the hard decisions while keeping things pleasant in the office. As mentioned, this is customer facing, so you should be comfortable presenting/selling ideas.
You should have a BS degree or higher in CS, EE, or a related major. At least 3 years writing embedded software in C with a real-time operating system (RTOS) and 2 years on space programs. More is always appreciated.
Major bonus points for:
– Xilinx FPGAs and development tools
– Compiler knowledge
– Microcontrollers from Atmel and TI
